Xian and the Terracotta Army, China
July 10 - 12, 2008
We board a flight to Xian in a much anticipated tour of Xian city and the magnificant terracotta warriors exhibition. Xian was the former capital and draws travellers to glimpse its star archaeological attractions. The atmosphere is more archaic than the bustling cities like Beijing and Shanghai and we really enjoyed this more authentic feel to the city.
Our Accommodation
We stayed at Xian City Hotel. It was a convenient location allowing us to explore on foot
Terracotta Warriors Exhibit and Ban Po Village
We found a tour with CITS (a state owned tourism company) through the Bell Tower Hotel to take us on our day adventure. The Terracotta Warriors are a collection of more than 8,000 life size figures of warriors, chariots, horses and acrobats which was buried and forgotten for nearly 2,000 years. They were built to safeguard Emperor Qin Shi Huang (260-210 BC) in the afterlife and was discovered in 1974 by a local farmer. It was an amazing experience and difinitely a highlight of the trip!
Cycling Xian's City Wall
Xi’an has the best preserved ancient city walls in China. Built in the T’ang Dynasty in 1370, they stand nearly 40 feet high and are an outstanding length of more than eight and a half miles.
