Vang Vieng, Laos
February 3-6, 2014
The river side village of Vang Vieng sits along the Nam Song River and is quite pretty with the karst mountains as a backdrop. The village has become famous for the young party crowds wishing to tube the river but with a combination of tourist accidents and deaths and some disrespect to the local people, the Laos government recently shut down most of the bars along the river and has restored some peace. We simply enjoyed a few days here including a tranquil float down the river almost all to ourselves.
Our Accommodations - Organic Farm Vang Vieng
We decided to stay 3km outside of the village of Vang Vieng at a placed called Organic Farm Vang Vieng offering accommodations, a restaurant and a chance to help the owners. Unfortunately, there was no one organzing or providing information on how to help on the farm so we just enjoyed being in an isolated area along the river.
Photo's of Vang Vieng
The village itself is nothing special but there are many restaurants along the river which have nice views while enjoying a good Laos sandwhich and sipping a fresh fruit smoothie for 50 cents!
Tubing the Nam Song River
Tubing the river in Vang Vieng is like a right of passage. Since most of the bars along the river have been shut down by the government, it ended up being a tranquil float and a relaxing afternoon. We did stop for one cold beer along the way.
