La Palma, El Salvador
October, 2011
The small town of La Palma is located across the border into El Salvador, just a 20 minute taxi ride from Ocotepeque. It's a very "artsy" town with paintings and colorful buildings, decorated doors and windows everywhere you looked.

Suchitoto, El Salvador
October, 2011
We loved the town of Suchitoto! We even love the name! The town is located on a lake about 3 hours from La Palma. It was so beautiful, laid back, quiet and friendly. It was full of artists, craft and jewelery stores, cobblestone streets and some fantastic places to eat. The people of the town have taken great care of its historical buildings making it a beautiful place to stroll and admire the architecture. They also had a logo stamped everywhere saying "we respect women and are free of violence towards them" making this a forward thinking Latin American town.
Custom Bracelet
The El Gringo Restaurant is a great place to eat, owned by an American who is very helpful with information. I had a bracelet custom made for me by "Marvin", who worked here and sold jewelery.
Art for Peace Museum
We went to a really neat museum called "Art for Peace" that was located in what used to be a nunnery. It had some really neat old rooms that were being re-done for art displays.

Copan de Ruinas, Honduras
We did a weekend trip to a town called Copan (about 5 1/2 hours by bus from Ocotepeque). There are mayan ruins that you can tour and the town itself was another fantastic place to visit with cobblestone streets, a really nice town square, great eating and lots of cafe's to sip our latte's. We had a great weekend.
Our Accommodations - La Posada Belssy Hotel
We found a place called La Posada Belssy Hotel which had good basic clean rooms and an excellent location.

Copan Ruinsas
The Copan Ruins were built sometime around 600-700 AD. It was the first time either of us had toured Mayan Ruins so it was a neat day exploring the area!
