Tortuguero, Costa Rica
March 5-6, 2012
Tortuguero National Park. The small village is accessible only by boat because its sandwiched between the caribbean ocean and a series of water canals on the other. It's famous for turtle watching during the summer months but has also become a popular place to tour the water canals for wildlife viewing.
We made one last stop at Traveling to Tortuguero
From San Jose, its about a 3 hour bus ride in the direction of the Caribbean ocean. The scenery along the way was so beautiful with banana plantations and expanses of untouched jungle. Once we arrived in the very small town of La Pavona, we boarded a boat that transports you down the canal to Tortuguero. It was a great scenic trip.
Our Accommodation - Casa Marbella B&B
We found a great little place located in the "centre" of Tortuguero Village called Casa Marbella B&B. The B&B has its own deck directly facing the river, making it a wonderfully tranquil spot to have our delicious big breakfast and coffee in the mornings.
Photo's of Tortuguero Village
The village itself has one main street where most of the hotels and shops are located and the National Park entrance at one end of the village (total walking time from end to end is about 15 minutes). On one side of the village is the river way and its canals and on the other side, is the Caribbean ocean. The width of the village is small, so you can easily access both sides. It has a very laid back and tranquil vibe to it, friendly and safe.
Video Tortuguero National Park
We booked a 6:00 am canal tour to float the water ways inside the National Park and spot some wildlife. It was a beautiful morning, and we saw a variety of birds, monkey's, and even an ant eater!
