Stonehenge, Corfe Castle and The Jurassic Coast, England
April 19-20, 2013
From the Cotswold Area, we headed directly south and had a BIG day of exploring! We stopped for a visit at famous Stonehenge, then drove along the coast to Corfe Castle, and lastly, drove along what is known as the Jurassic Coast to spend the night in a city called Weymouth.
Stonehenge
Stonehenge is such a famous monument! But sadly, we found it a bit "underwhelming". Some of the mystique has been removed due to the busy highways running around the site but plans are in the works to return the monument to more natural surroundings. Our view from outside the fence was almost as good as the people who paid to enter so we took a few photo's and marvelled at its existance and then continued on our way.
Corfe Castle
Corfe Castle is a 1,000 year old castle that was demolished by sieges in the 1600's, its quite a picturesque place to visit. We walked a short path from the car park to the entrance of the village and stopped for a few photo's and some lunch.
Jurassic Coast
The Jurassic Coast is England's first natural World Heritage Site and covers 95 miles of truly stunning coastline from East Devon to Dorset with rocks dating back as much as 185 millions years ago. It really is an amazing stretch of coast line worth exploring in better detail.
Lulworth Cove
Along the Jurassic Coast is a place called Lulworth Cove where we stopped for a walk along the bluff.
It was a beautiful sunny day and perfect for a walk along the ocean bluff.

Chesil Beach
Further along the Jurassic Coast is a piece of beach made completely of pebbles.
Lyme Regis
We made another stop along the coast in the town of Lyme Regis. The coast line has started to errode and fall away in this area which is now exposing fossils in the rock that are millions of years old and the town has since become quite famous for fossil hunting.
