Sanur, Bali, Indonesia
January, 22-28, 2014
The ocean town of Sanur is our last stop in Bali and is located on the east side of the small southern peninsula. Sanur is sometimes referred to as "Snore" because it tends to attract families and mature tourists. The beach here is quite calm and good for lazy dips. Sanur is only 20 minutes from the airport so its a strategic place in preparation to fly to Maylasia then onward to Laos. .
Our Accommodation - Gustav Bali Homestay
Gustav Bali Homestay is located in the centre of the touristy area but tucked down a quiet alley making it an ideal location. Rooms were basic but the staff were very friendly and helpful and there was a good massage centre right next door!
The People of Bali
The Balinese people are very sweet and kind. They are happy and joyful and genuinely seem pleased to see you and love to say hello. We've had a wonderful and warm experience with the people of Bali and they have truly stolen our hearts and made our trip so memorable.
Spiritual Offerings
The Balinese believe strongly in their religion and everyday they provide "offerings" to their gods to ask for an assorment of good things such as good luck, good health, good wealth, good harvest. The offerings comes in the form of young coconut leaves made into a square bowl adorned with flowers, insense, little bits of food and sometimes money. They put these offerings everywhere! You'll find them in the middle of roads, on sidewalks, in front of shops. Its quite unique and very interesting.
Pasir Sindhu Market
The Sanur night market called Pasir Sindhu is a great spot to eat like a local. Many tourists were there testing and sampling the food and though we usually avoid most food markets, this one had a pretty good reputation as being safe.
