Santa Catalina, Panama
February 12-14, 2012
This was a long bus adventure to reach this isolated point on the southern Panama peninsula. Santa Catalina is famous for its surfing and we thought it could be a neat place to get off the beaten "tourist" track and experience a different kind of Panama. It was definately isolated but with no stores or services nearby it made it difficult to obtain supplies. It was definately a memorable stop but for us, a few days was plenty.
Our Accommodations - Hibiscus Garden
We chose a place to stay about 10km before the town of Santa Catalina called Hibiscus Garden. Its owned and run by a German couple and definately has that coastal "rustic" feel with drift wood furniture in the bedrooms and an assortment of creepy crawly's but we still found it charming.
Horse Back Riding Along the Ocean
No guides, left on our own. It was really great, except the horses were painfully slow.
Las Lajas, Panama
February 15, 2012
Our last stop in Panama was a town called Las Lajas to simply break-up the day of bus riding. Unfortunately, we didn't have a chance to explore what the area had to offer.
Our Accommodations - Finca Buena Vista
We were recommended to stay at Finca Buena Vista and we absolutely loved it. Owened and operated by a German couple, it was a beautiful oasis overlooking the valley. Their homemade goulash soup was amazing and in the morning our breakfast was outstanding.
