Padre Island National Seashore, Texas
January 22-23, 2011
Padre Island National Seashore is the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier island in the world. The national seashore separates the gulf of Mexico from the Laguna Madre, one of the a few hypersaline lagoons in the world. The park encompasses and protects 70 miles of coastline, dunes and prairies and is a wonderful place to primitive camp right on the sandy beaches. It was a memorable experience and one where we had the fortunate chance to make life long friends from New Zealand.
Our Accommodations - Padre Island Primitive Camping
At Padre Island there is a semi-developed campground or you can camp anywhere along the length of the beach for free! So we pulled onto South Beach and enjoyed the incredible views and sounds of camping right next to the water.

Meeting Friends from New Zealand
While camping at Padre Island, we met a wonderful couple from New Zealand. We hit it off right away and felt like we had known them all our lives. It ended up that we were all traveling in the same direction and decided to meet up along the way while en route to our destinations. It was nice to share memories with friends.
