Orkney Island, Scotland
May 27-June 10, 2013
We arrived at a town called Thurso located at the northern tip of Scotland where we boarded the Northern Link Ferry to the small sea side village of Stromness on Orkney Island. We really loved Orkney Island for its history, quaintness and isolation. We were really lucky to have a beautiful sunny day to explore the island.

Forced to Hitch Hike!
Once on the island, transportation is very limited. In order to make it to the museum and back in time for our ferry departure, we ended up hitch hiking to our destination and back again! A very nice woman picked us up and dropped us at the museum And on our return, a kind and friendly man from Austraila picked us up and drove us to a few other standing stone monuments before returning us to the village...How wonderful!
Skara Brae Monument
The Skara Brae Monument is a stone village that is 5000 years old!
Its amazing to look at something that people built so long ago!
Standing Stone Monuments
The other Standing Stone Monuments on the Island are thought have been for ceremonial use, 5000 years ago.
A bit of a mystery and very interesting.
