New York City, New York
October 8-18, 2010
There are so many iconic places in the U.S.A but none bigger and more famous than New York City! It's the largest city in America and can only be described as magnetic and eclectic, magical, cosmopolitan, delicious and tasty. Frantic, energetic, illuminating and vibrant. It was an amazing experience to emerse ourselves and feel the pulse of this iconic city. It has everything you could ever want and offers so much more than you could ever discover. Best of all, we were able to connect with family and enjoy New York together!
Our Accommodations - Liberty Harbor RV Park
We were grateful to find the only RV campground within minutes of Manhattan. It was called Liberty Harbor RV Park and it was located just across the Hudson river in Jersey City. It was only a subway ride away from downtown New York and we could see the Statue of Liberty from our site.
Times Square
As a special treat, Deb's sister Gayle and brother-in-law Jason made a trip to meet us in New York and explore the city together. After emerging from the subway, it was a little overwhelming taking in the action of New York City. We got our bearings and then began to walk towards Times Square!
Rockefeller Center
Grand Central Terminal
It was neat to visit something you've seen so much portrayed in the movies. If you stood still, you could feel the "pulse" of the subway as all the trains passed beneath the ground!
Photo's Around New York
World Trade Centre
After almost 10 years, this is the current progress of the construction to rebuild the area. The original twin towers stood where you see the two squares. These squares when completed will be waterfall pools in tribute to 911 and the building you see behind will be the new World Trade building.
Staten Island
A fun adventure was riding the free ferry to Staten Island. It cruises right by the Statue of Liberty and provides nice views of the city skyline.
Broadway Show - Wicked
One of the best things we did was go to a Broadway Show called Wicked! The show was based on what happened before Dorthy's arrival in The Wizard of Oz and tells the story of how the Wicked Witch came to be and her relationship with The Good Witch Glinda. We loved it and had a fantastic time!
City Bus Tour
We did a city bus tour which gave us access for two days to all major interest points. It was a great way to get the layout of the city and some history of the area.
Museum of Natural History and Central Park
We explored the Museum of Natural History which was a fantastic place. You could spend a week seeing it all!
Then we went for a walk through Central Park which is truly a tranquil haven in the middle of chaos!
The Empire State Building
New York Giants Game
A highlight for the trip was going to a New York Giants game! Our brother-in-law is a huge fan so this was a very special event for him. The tailgating parties are an event in itself and is a big part of the pre-game excitement. It was a fantastic experience! Giants won the game!
