Monterey, California
November 21-22, 2009
Monterey is a waterfront community on the central coast of California and we found it to be one of the prettiest coastlines in the state. There was a lot to see and do here including many types of water sports such as kayaking, scuba diving, surfing and whale watching. Monterey is also home to Monterey Bay Aquarium and Fisherman's Wharf.
Our Accommodations - Laguna Seca Recreation Area
The Laguna Seca Recreation Area is a world renowned racing circuit. All sorts of car races are held there every year and there is also an AMG driving school. We used this area as our base to visit other cities in the surrounding area.
Monarch Grove Sanctuary Park - Monterey, California
Every year from November to January, there is a migration of thousands of monarch butterflies that come to the Monarch Grove Sanctuary Park. They clump together by the hundreds in the trees and the distance they travel is quite a remarkable feat.
Fisherman's Warf
We first strolled along Monterey's coastal walking path and then over to Fisherman's Warf for some fish and chips on the pier.
Monterey Bay Aquarium
This place was unbelievable! The Monterey Bay Aquarium was a top notch facility housing the best collection of sea animals we've ever seen.
