Melaka, Malaysia - Chinese New Years
January 28-31, 2014
After leaving the wonderful island of Bali, we had a few days to fill before flying onward to our next destination. We decided to head to the Unesco World Heritage town of Melaka, Malaysia. As it turns out, we were there during Chinese New Years so we were able to celebrate and take part of the festivities. Chinese New Years is the most important holiday of the year for the Chinese and during this period, it can be very intense with all kinds of celebrations. This was probably a good place to be since the large cities would have been caotic. The Unesco core of the town is easily walkable and quite charming with old shop houses converted into restaurants, hotels and shops. The Melaka River runs through the town giving it a nice scenic touch.
Our Accommodation - Homestay Cafe 1511
We found a place to stay located in the centre of Melaka, in the heart of Chinatown called Cafe 1511. It was once used as the servants quarters and much of it is still orginal so it was a neat place to be.
Trishaw Rides
These are crazy! Its like a competition between the drivers to see who can ellaborately decorate their trishaw. You can take a ride around town with music of their choice blaring out the back of the bike.
