Manatee Springs State Park, Chiefland, Florida
December 30, 2010-January 1, 2011
As the name may suggest, Manatee Springs State Park contains a spring fed pool producing 100 million gallons of clear cool water daily. It is also where West Indian manatees swim up river to the warmer waters of the springs and can often be spotted frolicking in the waters. The waters are popular for swimming and scuba diving and the spring forms a sparkling stream that meanders through hardwood wetlands to the Suwannee River. It was a wonderful place to spend a couple of days and definately worth returning to see more.
Our Accommodations - Manatee Spring State Park Campground
The campground was rustic but at the same time, really nice with heavily wooded sites.
Spring Fed Swimming Hole
The pool was a constant 22 degrees year round but it was still too cold to take a dip. Though, there were many people who did.
St. Joseph's State Park, Port St.Joe, Florida
January 2-4, 2011
We enjoyed traveling Florida's panhandle and stopped for a few days along the gulf coast near a small town called Port St. Joe and enjoyed the lovely ocean side campground within St. Joseph's State Park.
Our Accommodations - St. Joseph's State Park Campground
This was another fantastic park situated right at the ocean called St. Joseph's State Park! The white sandy beach was steps away from our campsite and was a great place to stroll and watch the ocean.
