Le Gosier, Guadeloupe
December 18-28, 2022
Needing a place to spend Christmas, we decided to stick with Guadeloupe and moved up the coast to a town called Le Gosier. Its located almost at the centre of the island making it a great jumping off point to travel to either side. There's definitely more tourism here which means more people speaking English. Everyone seems really friendly and we're really enjoying that change of atmosphere. Christmas isn't outwardly celebrated here - not a lot of decorations or festive music on display so its not really feeling like Christmas at all. But we'll throw on some Christmas tunes, watch a few Christmas movies, facetime with family and friends and maybe enjoy a cocktail at one of the hotels. All in all, sounds like a pretty good way to spend the holidays!
Accommodations
We decided on a comfortable Airbnb apartment in the heart of Le Gosier village.
Easy walking distance to the town's main beach La Datcha and all services. It's tucked away down a small street away from traffic and the neighbourhood is friendly
La Datcha Beach
The town's main beach
Ilet de Gosier (The Island of Gosier)
Just a minute boat ride off the shore, is the tiny island of Gosier. We spent Christmas Eve here frolicking in the water and enjoying a peaceful day. Even though its so close to shore, it feels quite different than mainland. A little slice of tranquility.
Bokit's, Acrras, and Agoulou - Oh My!
These are all popular local fast food specialty's.... All pretty calorie dense, most of them fried! You can find these everywhere usually being served out of food trucks. Each vendor does it a little different but the premise is the same.
Bokit = derived from a kind of fried bread called a "johnny cake" from New England settlers, various toppings
Agoulou = A sandwich from wheat bun, grilled and filled with various toppings
Accras = fish fritters deep fried
