Lavaux Vineyard Terraces, Montreux, Switzerland
October, 2013
The Lavaux Vineyard Terraces are a Unesco Heritage site dating back to the 1100's and are internationally famous vineyard stretching from Montreux to Lausanne approximately 30km. The unique design of terraced farming means that the vineyards receive sun and warmth in three ways: 1) directly from the sun, 2) from the reflection of the sun off the lake and 3) from the heat retained in the stone walls. Its an extremely beautiful area to walk and there are lovely paths all through the vineyards. We walked from St. Saphorine to Cully and the views were spectacular! There's even wine tasting stations along the way!
