La Paz, Bolivia
May, 2016
The city of La Paz is the administrative capital of Bolivia and has a population of over 800,000 people. La Paz rests in a hollow gouged into the Andes plateau and is one of the highest cities in South America at an elevation of 3,600 meters (12,000 feet). The ram shackle homes crowd the valley slopes like lego figures with the snow capped mountain peaks looming in the background. Its a frantic, congested city and much of its working life is largely conducted on the streets making it feel like one huge continous market. It may not be the prettiest of cities but it does contain a certain kind of rough charm and its bustling energy is somewhat exciting. Its also strategically located to nearby mountain treks and other outdoor adventures.
Our Accommodations - Arthy's Guesthouse & Casa Skyways
We stayed first in the north/central area of La Paz at Arthy's Guesthouse. Located just a few minutes walk from the main shopping streets and markets it was an ideal introduction to La Paz.

We also stayed in the south area of La Paz with less traffic congestion and quieter streets at a B&B called Casa Skyways. Located a short truffi ride from the central area, rooms were bright and comfortable.
