Koreshan State Park, Fort Myers, Florida
December 21-29, 2010
As we continued north up the gulf side of Florida, we discovered a great park near Fort Myers called Koreshan State Park. The origins of this state park started with a colony known as the Koreshan Unity who believed that the entire universe existed within a giant hollow sphere. The colony began fading and were gone by 1961. Today, visitors can fish, picnic, boat, and hike within the state park and it became the perfect place to spend Christmas. The area was situated near the ocean with a subtropical climate and was a lovely way to spend the holidays.
Our Accommodations - Koreshan State Park Campground
This was a fantastic park! So well kept and maintained and sites were large with lots of vegetation for privacy. The campground was in an ideal location because it was close to many different beaches and islands and to all major services.
Canoe Float on the State Park River
We rented a canoe from our campground and did a float down the river. Lovely and relaxing way to spend a day.
Christmas 2010 - Sanibel Island
We spent a wonderful Christmas by doing a day trip to nearby Sanibel Island. Most of the island feels undeveloped thanks to a large wild life refuge located there. We also spent Christmas Day on Bonita Beach which was a lovely beach and practically deserted.
