Koh Phangan Island, Thailand
March 12-15, 2014
Our first stop along the skinny southern peninsula of Thailand was on the east side (Gulf Coast of Thailand) to visit an island named Koh Phangan Island. This particular island is famous for its Full Moon parties where upwards of 20,000 young adults gather on a specific date to party like there's no tomorrow! We didn't come for the party but rather, to experience the beauty of the island away from its brash reputation and we were happily rewarded with soft white beaches, turquiose waters and some pretty good snorkeling. It was a great stop!
Our Accommodation - Haad Yao Beach
We heard great things about Haad Yao Beach. A 1km white strip of sand with warm turqoise waters. It didn't disappoint, that's for sure! At the end of Haad Yao Beach, we found a small hotel with 6 rooms above a convenience store
directly on the beach. Perfect!

Snorkeling at Koh Ma Island
Only 10 minutes north of where we were staying, is a great area for snorkeling called Mae Haad Beach. At lower tide, a sand bar is revealed which then allows you to cross to Koh Ma Island. The snorkeling was really quite good with huge coral and we got to see a good amount of fish. We love this kind of thing so it was a fun day floating and exploring!
