Koh Lipe Island, Thailand
March 18-22, 2014
Our final destination in southern Thailand was the island of Koh Lipe located on the west side of the southern peninsula of Thailand (Andaman Coast/Indian Ocean) and close to the Malaysian border. It was a wonderful place to unpack our bags and stay awhile as we swam, snorkeled and generally gazed longingly into the crystal clear turquoise waters of our beach. The island is more developed than some of the other Thai islands but it still maintains a certain rustic charm. Pattaya Beach is a busy boat transport beach but the other two areas called Sunrise Beach and Sunset Beach are generally quiet and serene. A perfect end to our Thailand adventure...Ahhhh....Koh Lipe, we love you!
Our Accommodation - The Gypsy Resort, Sunrise Beach
We chose to stay at The Gypsy Resort on Sunrise Beach and it was by far, the best beach on the island! Known as the maldives of Thailand, it was so beautiful here, the water so clear and warm. The resort offered individual little bungalows all lined up among a pretty garden, set back only slightly from the ocean. Though the bungalows were a little rustic and worn, each one had its own private veranda and hammocks, a perfect place for a lazy afternoon snooze. There was also an onsite restaurant. We really enjoyed our time here!

There was good coral right off our beach which offered some pretty good snorkeling. At low tide you could walk out 150 meters and reach some of the nearby rocky islands. The water was so clear and warm, it was like a swimming pool!
