Leaving Canada - Our Adventure Begins!
October 30, 2009
After selling our house and all our possessions, our first task was to purchase a "Recreational Vehicle" (RV) for our North American camping adventure. We were very lucky to find a fantastic trailer and truck just prior to hitting the road. A Trail Cruiser Lite (21 foot) and a Chevy Silverado became our home on the road. With no prior experience, we turned to our family and friends for help and support to show us the ropes of RV'ing and camping. If it wasn't for them, we never would have been so prepared. Thank you to everyone who helped us out!
Goodbye Canada! Our adventure begins to travel the world! First stop: USA
There was a lot of emotion to say the least as reality hit us that we were finally starting our travels after so much preparation and planning. We had sold our house in Calgary so officially had no home other than the one we'd be pulling behind us and the only possessions that remained were approximately 6 plastic bins of sentimental items from our old house and whatever we were carrying in this RV. Freeing?...Yes! Scary?....Yes! Were we ready?....Yes and No!
We have a loose plan of where we're headed and what we'd like to see but otherwise, we will go where the wind takes us, so they say. This trip is part adventure and part experiment...We're curious to see how we feel about full-time traveling and how we fair living with each other 24 hours a day in a 26 foot space! There will be many lessons along the way I'm sure!
However and wherever we end up, we will do it together...and that is the most important thing of all.

Mooses Saloon!
There's no secret that both of us love food and one of our favorite's is the succulant pizza served up at Mooses Saloon. Its the best we've ever had. To celebrate our departure, we headed on down for a few slices of zaw and some ice cold soda pop! What a great way to start our adventure and boy, did we need it! On our way to Mooses, we drove through a wind storm which nearly tore off a window from our trailer which added a bit of stress!
Our First Campground
This was our first campsite...Ever! We pulled into a site in Kalispell and it started to rain...We'll never forget the sound of raindrops on our roof for the very first time. And best of all, I'll never forget Doug sleepily commenting that the rain "sounded like applause" and then swiftly nodding back off into a deep snore. Perhaps a sign, we were indeed on the right journey!
