Jalama Beach and Solvang, California
January 15-16, 2010
We had heard about a special place called Jalama Beach County Park and as we discovered, it was indeed a magical little place. It's located near a town called Lompoc (about 1 hour northwest of Santa Barbara) and used to be an indigenous settlement but in 1943, part of the land was donated to the county of Santa Barbara. Today, there is a lovely campground situated at the ocean front and at the Jalama Beach Grill and Store, you will find the world famous Jalama Burger which we can confirm is worth every mouth watering bite!
Our Accommodations - Jalama Beach Campground
Situated right on the ocean, Jalama Beach Campground was a fantastic spot!
Secluded and spectacular and every camp site had a great view of the water
Jalama Beach Grill and Store
We had first heard about Jalama Beach from a magazine that raved about their famous Jalama Burger. Being the food lovers we are, it sounded like the perfect destination and the burgers were truly amazing! It was a great way to spend the day!
Solvang, California
January 15-16, 2010
After leaving Jalama Beach, we stopped at a town called Solvang for a visit. It was so unique and felt like you had simply drove right into Europe. Solvang is a Danish word meaning "Sunny Field" and was founded in 1911 by a small group of Danish educators who settled and immediately went to work building a Danish community. We ate some of the most delicious food and one of those treats was called a "aebleskiver" or "Danish ball pancake" which is a round fluffy pastry that is fried then filled with jam and topped with powdered sugar....yummy!
