Itchetucknee Springs State Park, Florida
November 21-22, 2010
Itchetucknee Springs State Park is situated near the city of Gainesville and centres around the six mile Ichetuckee River which flows through shaded hammock and limestone outcrops. The river is spring fed and remains a constant 22 degrees year round. In the summer, the most popular activity is to float the river in an inner tube. Since the water is crystal clear swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving are also very popular. We did a fantastic kayak float and met some wonderful people while we were here.
Our Accommodations - The Itchetucknee Family Campground
The Itchetucknee State Park doesn't offer camping but there was a place very close to the park entrance called
The Itchetucknee Family Campground who also rented full water gear for exploring the river such as kayaks, canoes, and tubes.
Meeting Great People from Florida
While taking a dip in the Itchetucknee river, we met a wonderful guy from Hawaii who also introduced us to the rest of his family. They extended the best Florida hospitality and even introduced us to gator tail, grits and fried green tomatoes!
Kayaking Itchetucknee River
We shared our kayak rental with the fella we met from Hawaii and together floated the itchetucknee River. The river was crystal clear and so beautiful and stopped mid-way to swim and snorkel. What an amazing day, we enjoyed it so much!
