House Sitting The Algarve, South Portugal
February 1-20, 2013
Our next house sitting assignment is in South Portugal in an area known as The Algarve. Its well known for its beautiful beaches, dramatic coastline and green rolling hills. Its an important area for fish, seafood and fruit production and the most popular tourist desination in Portugal where the population triples during peak season! We're looking after a beautiful property near the small village of Aljezur and caring for three horses and three dogs. We have amazing views of the surrounding hills and are only 10 minutes from the ocean. The home owners are a wonderful Belgium couple who decided to relocate to live their dream....They're a very warm and generous couple and we're so grateful to have met them!
The Property and Pets
The property is truly a little piece of heaven! Amazing views, ocean and animals...Fantastic combination!
We're caring for 3 dogs and 3 horses and they're a wonderful group of animals!
Town of Lagos
Lagos is south from us and only a quick drive away. Here we are at the lookout point just outside of town. Amazing!
Photo's of Bordeira Beach and Vale Figueires Beach
Town of Monchique
Nearby up in the mountains (900 meters) is the Town of Monchique. We went to the lookout point which is the highest point in the Algarve. Then we tried our first piri piri chicken dish which is a common speciality in this area (roasted chicken with mild spicy seasoning).
Faro, Olhao, Tavira, Rio Fermosa National Park
We did a day trip to the area of Faro which included a stop in a pretty river town called Tavira then a quick stop in Rio Fermosa National Park to walk a short 2km nature trail.
Sao Vicente Point and the Town of Luz
We had a wonderful day exploring this area...We started at Sao Vicente Point which is the most southwestardly point in Europe. Then we drove through the towns of Sagres, Salema and then the small town of Luz where we enjoyed the most heavenly piece of dessert from a restaurant called Pasteleira Chicca (organic and homemade) and ate it on the beach of Luz.
Valentine's Day
After a nice walk along the beach, we enjoyed a nice lunch with freshly squeezed lemonade and German pastries on the deck.
Amado Beach
The Algarve area is so full of beauty, we have endless options to explore.
