House Sitting Singapore, SE Asia
November 1, 2013 - January 6, 2014
From Europe, our next destination takes us 12 hours by plane to SE Asia and our first stop, Singapore. Singapore is both an island and a country and though its small, its an economic giant. The city is a diverse blend of modern and old, cultures and food. We're house sitting a lovely modern apartment and two ragdoll cats named Myfi and Lola who are absolutely cute and adorable. The main langauge here is English, making it an easy transition. We're very excited about our new adventure and look forward to all that Asia has to offer!
Our Apartment and Neighborhood
Lola and Myfi
They're ragdoll cats and so cute and adorable! They're very affectionate and we just love them to bits!
Orchard Road
Famous shopping street. This city is built on malls, food and air conditioning!
We've included a video of a sudden rain storm that's very typical for this time of year.
Fresh Dim Sum!
It may look like surgery but its actually fresh dumplings being made before your eyes at Din Tai Fung! Its quite the production.
Hawker Food Centres
In every neighborhood, you will find complexes where various food vendors have come together under one roof to offer their specialities. Its definately a "no frills" eating experience, but this is where you'll find the average local enjoying their meals. Some complexes are just one floor in size while others can be 4 or 5 floors containing hundreds of eating options.
Singapore Botanical Gardens
The gardens are located very close to us and is a great oasis to escape the noise of the city!
MacRitchie Resevoir Walk
We did a lovely 2.5 hour walk around this lush and wooded area in Singapore. It eventually lead to a bridge that crossed over the treetops. And we saw monkey's!
Chinatown and Temples
Some of the neatest streets contained old shop houses that have been converted into shops and restaurants. There's also a very large outdoor market and we stopped in to see two temples in the area.
Kampong Glam (Muslim) District
We really enjoyed our afternoon in this district of Singapore. Very unique vibe with some great food and shopping!
Bugis Street Market is a famous market filled with people and shops!
Zam Zam Restaurant for Murtabak and Nasi Biryani
We stopped for lunch at a place that's been around since 1908 called Singapore Zam Zam Restaurant for one of the best meals ever! We shared a chicken murtabak (a typed of folded stuffed pancake) and beef nasi biryani (fragrant rice with beef).

Sultan Mosque
Lastly, we popped in to explore the nearby Sultan Mosque. We had to wear long robes to cover up while inside.
Clarke Quay and Boat Quay
This is a nice area to stroll and is located at the waterfront with shops and restaurant lining the river.
Gardens by the Bay
This is a huge outdoor park at the waterfront and was created to enhance the quality of life by increasing the flora and fauna within the city. A "grove" of huge metal trees were designed to be the vehicle for vines, flowers and plants to grow on.
Every evening, there is a free light show in the grove which is pretty cool.
Christmas 2013
Every Christmas is special in its own way...This year, we spent Christmas Eve strolling along Orchard Road enjoying the festive lights and caroling. On Christmas Day, we enjoyed a chicken dinner feast with all the fixins' and
chocolate cake for dessert!
