House Sitting, Sacred Valley, Peru
October 1-12, 2015
We were very lucky to find an amazing house sitting assignment in the Sacred Valley of Peru, approximately 1 hour from Cusco in the direction of Machu Picchu. We're house sitting for a wonderful Dutch couple (Jolanda and Simone) who are warm, friendly and whom immediately felt like friends! We're caring for 5 rescue dogs and a lovely home overlooking the valley with the most amazing views! We're enjoying our time with the dogs and the peacefullness and tranquility of the area! The home owners run a foundation here in Peru called Por Eso (which means "that way!") and they are helping to build green houses and educate about nutrition for people living in the local mountain villages. If you're interested, you can watch a short 3 minute video about what they do which will also give you an idea of our experience in this area.
The House
We're located near a tiny village named Huaran approximately 1 hour from Cusco. We have the most amazing views overlooking the valley with the mountains surrounding us. We're at an elevation over 3,000 meters but we no longer feel the ill effects of being at high altitude. We're simply enjoying our time with the dogs and tranquility because soon we'll be on road again doing and seeing lots!
The Animal Gang!
We're caring for 5 rescue dogs and we have quickly adapted and bonded with them! They're all quite well behaved and overall they have nice energy so we're really enjoying our time with them. We wake at 5:30am for our first walk with the dogs followed by another walk around mid-afternoon.

Visiting the Village of Pisac
Nearby is a small village named Pisac which is quite famous for its market especially on Sundays when it triples in size because locals from nearby villages come to sell their wares. Its a cute place though we found it quite touristy with bus loads of tourists stopping as they come from Cusco heading to Machu Picchu. We prefer the more authentic market of another nearby village called Urubamba where we buy our groceries and can shop for wares.
