El Calafate, Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina
December 12-16, 2015
El Calafate is located in Patagonia in Argentina nestled among the mountains and lakes its a charming little village. Our reason for visiting was to see the magnificant Perito Moreno Glacier located within the Los Glaciers National Park. The glacier is 250km in size and 30km in length and is one of the few glaciers that is actually still growing. Due to its size it receives a lot of tourists so we went early in the morning with another Canadian couple we met earlier in Ushuaia to catch a glimpse of this famous piece of ice. It was indeed amazing to see such a huge glacier and have the opportunity to be so close to observe it. The cracking and thundering of a glacier makes you stop in your tracks. The park has created a great network of boardwalks allowing you to stroll for miles and appreciate its splendour.
Our Accommodations - Hosteria Austral
The price tag for rooms are high here even for budget options but after walking around town we settled on Hosteria Austral.
It was convenient to the town and its services.
