Don Det Island, Laos
February 19-21, 2014
The area known as Four Thousand Islands was our last stop in Laos and are a group of islands situated in the Mekong River. The three main islands are Don Khong (the largest but least developed), Don Khon (still rather undeveloped but has a few more services) and Don Det (the most developed and touristed island). We didn't feel like island hopping so we simply choose to visit Don Det to relax by the river for a few days of simply doing nothing and reflecting on our time.
Our Accommodation
Despite that Don Det is the most "populated" of the islands, its still a very chilled and relaxed place to be. There isn't much to do but hang in your hammock watching the Mekong River flow by. We found some rustic bungalows located right on the water but do not remember the name. However, there's plenty of accommodation just like this one all along the river.
Laos Boats
These are quite typical wooden boats used throughout Laos.
This one took us across the river to connect with our bus to Don Det Island.
