Dartmoor National Park
April 20-22, 2013
Dartmoor National Park is an area of "moorland" meaning an area of grasslands. Its located in the county of Devon in southwest England and contains the largest area of granite in the UK. Its also known for its "tors" which are hills topped with rounded rock formations. We stayed in the middle of Dartmoor Park in a small village called Widecombe in the Moor.
Our Accommodation - Langworthy Farm B&B
We stayed in a lovely B&B called Langworthy Farm in a very small village called Widecomb in the Moor.
The B&B was run by Daf and Ken who were so warm and welcoming, such a wonderful couple! Beautiful location.
Haytor Rocks
This was a nice gentle climb up a hill to a big rock formation and views over the moor.
Hound Tor Walk
We did a 3 hour hike which included seeing the rock formation called "Hound Tor" and then onward through the moor to medieval village ruins and down some country lanes. Wonderful walk!
Warren House Inn Walk
We did another 3.5 hour walk which started from a pub called the Warren House Inn and then through the open moor, past old mining ruins, and through the rolling hills of farm fields. Our last stop was for "cream tea" at a lovely artist studio on route.
