Cusco, Peru
October 14-17, 2015
Cusco is a city in the Peruvian Andes and was once capital of the Inca empire. Its now known for its archaeological remains and Spanish colonial architecture. Set at an altitude of 3,400 meters (10,000 feet) the name Cusco literally means "navel" in the local Quechua language and it certainly fits its name since its the centre of Andean culture. Its a city full of life, colors, cobble stone streets, typical images yet modern influences and makes Cusco a very popular tourist destination. We enjoyed our days here wandering the streets and discovering interesting nooks and crannies down the narrow streets of the old part of the city.
Our Accommodations - Hospedaje Touristico San Blas
We stayed at Hospedaje Touristico San Blas located in the historic San Blas area of Cusco. Its a lovely old part of the city nestled in the hills above the city centre. Filled with cobble stone streets, shopping and restaurants it was a fantastic location for our stay in Cusco. We opted for their only room with a shared bathroom giving us a good deal yet with all the perks this great hostal has to offer.
Cusco City
During our time here we did a "free" walking tour of the city with FWT Peru. Though its advertised as free, they encourage tips but well worth it. We learned about the Spanish influence in Cusco, the architecture and of course about the famous alcoholic drink called the pisco sour...Comprised of the alcohol "pisco" a special blend of grapes, citrus juice and egg whites. Mmmm its very good!
