Blue Lakes, Lakeport, California
November 11-12, 2009
As we began heading to Lakeport, California, we really liked the topography of the area with lots of vineyards and pastures. This area is known as Lake County is home to Clear Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in California and one of the oldest lakes on the continent. Its also home to Mount Konocti, an ancient volcano that recently opened to offer one of the newest day hikes in the state. Lake County definately has an abundance of clean air, spectacular scenic beauty, and great recreational activities.
Our Accommodations - Pine Acres Campground
When we stopped to ask for directions, two really nice fire-fighters suggested staying at a nearby campground called
Pine Acres Campground situated around a smaller spring-fed lake called Blue Lakes. Great place!
Wine tasting at "Ceago"
We did a wine tasting at a local vineyard named Ceago Winary. They produce only organic wines and also employ "biodynamic" farming which is a complicated but extremely effective way of farming that incorporates the use of moon/sun cycles, planting a variety of species of plants and allowing specific types of animals to graze the vineyards...All for the benefit of the grapes! It was a really pretty setting and we had a nice time tasting and then buying a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc!
